Greetings All! Halloween in approaching and so it was time to nail the kids down on exactly what they wanted to be for Halloween. They usually change their minds 11.34 times in the weeks before Halloween, so we have to give them a deadline so that there is actually enough time to make the costumes. Isaac wants to be Bilbo (the young Bilbo in the Hobbit) Xander wants to be a snake charmer, and Laurelin and Gwen both want to be pink mermaids.
Kerry and Mike invited us over to their house last night (along with MaryMegan and Kent) to watch all the old Halloween cartoons that we used to watch when we were kids. It was great!! Ah, nostalgia. The best part is, our kids are just as into them now as we were then.
Yesterday I also participated in a dance evaluation with Desert Gypsy. They were having auditions for their troupe, but one could also sign up just for an evaluation, so I did, along with another girl from my dance class. We great time playing with everyone, and it was good experience. I’d never done anything like that really, so it was a gentle way to start.
This week we had Isaac’s parent teacher conference. It went fairly well. The teacher mentioned that she had to keep checking his scores on the reading fluency test to see if he really did read that fast. Hee hee hee, yes he did.
Xander and Isaac have designed their own art gallery (all over the stairwell and living room walls). There is a wall for the snake drawings, a wall for monsters, a wall for prehistoric beasts, and even one for Xander’s Pine Wood Derby drawings. I’ll try to post some pictures of their drawings. Look especially for Isaac study of tusks.
The girls have busy too. Laurelin is still disappointed every weekend because she doesn’t get to go to school. She’s been independently practicing writing all her letters, and goes on “word hunts” around the house, when she takes a pen and paper all around and copies all the words she can find. Gwen has added “speaking of” to her list precocious phrases. She said to me the other day, “Speaking of eating, I want to eat.” She makes faces just like MaryMegan did when she was little. It’s hilarious.
