Belated Moab

We finally managed to pull some pictures from our last Moab trip from our deceased camera.

Springfest and park pictures

Hello All!
Just to let you know I am performing in Thia's annual Springfest (a bellydance festival) March 6th at the Salt Lake Fairgrounds. The festival admission is $7 per person, ages 5 and under are free. The most amazing band ever in the world (and anyone who truly knows me knows I'm talking about Wolfstone www.wolfstone.co.uk) has very kindly granted permission to use some of their music for my performance, so I will be debuting my Scottish Highland/bellydance fusion piece. My performance time is 9:48 pm. I know that's really late, but if you want to come cheer for me I'd love to see you there! Please be aware that it is common for performance times to get either bumped up or pushed back at these kinds of all day festivals, so if you are coming I would recommend getting there a bit early. (Plus it's fun to just come and see lots of fun dancers and sparkly stuff for sale!) I am also performing with my awesome friend Anya's troupe, Tiger Eyes Dance Company, at 8:18 pm. She has done a great job with the choreography, and I think the set will be great!
Ok,thanks for reading my shameless promotion (hey if you can't shamelessly promote yourself on a blog then where can you?) now I'll let you enjoy the pictures of the kids playing in the park in peace hee hee hee

Quips of the week

Left: This was a lucky shot. I got it just as the croc made a lightning fast strike from the pool towards Isaac. Click on the picture to see the fire in the croc's eyes! (Don't worry, there's a thick layer of glass between them.)
Right: Visiting the zoo on Martin Luther King day. We went with one of my students from Korea. We took a picture of him with us, too, but I don't know if he'd want us to put it up. It was fun. The kids had fun giving him the tour.

While attempting to brush through Xander's formidable mane after his shower, I asked him if he thought he should get a trim soon.

"No...I want my hair to grow so long that it surrounds me."

When I replied that it would be hard to do a lot of things, he responded,

"If my hair were that long, then I could hide in a wig shop!"

After playing boffer swords outside, Xander approached Kelly and asked her to watch him.

"Do what?" she asked.

"Defeat these laughably easy opponents!"

While driving, Isaac suddenly blurted, "Mamma, watch out for collisions that might send us back in time!"

Gwen had a blast on a hike with Michelle this week. She was impressed by the fact that they saw deer tracks, and equally fascinated by the bear spray they carried.

It has been exciting to see Laurelin's literacy blooming. Not only has she been reading more, she is also writing. During sacrament meeting last week, Laurelin was listening to the talks, and she came up with the following. She did everything herself. We have provided a translation at right, in case her orthography befuddles you:

God sied feed my seep. (God said feed my sheep.)
We are his seep he love us. (We are his sheep, he loves us.)
Seprds have a cane decks. (Sheperds have a cane because)
Tha have to get the seep. (They have to get the sheep.)
Thr is a stoy adot 100. (There is a story about 100)
Seep dut one is lost. (Sheep, but one is lost.)
Jess gos and finds it. (Jesus goes and finds it.)
And that is what Jeses. (And that is what Jesus)
Wrod do if you wr. (Would do if you were)
Lost and that is (lost and that is)
how mach he loves you. (how much he loves you.)
She had written several others since then. Today, while they were waiting for her teacher, she decided to read one that she had written previously in sacrament meeting, so she did so for her classmates. That reminds me...this week, when her teacher had to leave the classroom for a moment, she left Laurelin in charge. Laurelin was also student of the month this week, so it's been an eventful time for her.

Isaac's persuasive essay

I was going through Isaac’s backpack this morning and found an writing assignment that I just had to share with you all. He was supposed to write a persuasive essay in the form of a letter, so being Isaac he wrote it to persuade his teacher that he really didn’t have time to write it. I had a good laugh, and I hope it gives you one too.

Dear Mrs. Stott,

Here are the reasons I cannot do the homework.

First, I cannot do the homework because it has been clinicly proven that homework does not help with student education. Rather, it wears away at a student’s willingness to learn.

Second, my father has to go to upon a crucial business trip and I am vital to aiding him.

Third, the Association of Zoos and Aquariums is counting on me to speak to the President of the United States of America. If I do not, the country’s economy will fail. The swine flu is getting steadily more dangerous and the effects of the sickness will cause World War III if I do not intervene with a carefully bred vaccine called “Splendor Emergency Medication”.

Those are the reasons I cannont do my homework tonight. I must attend to urgent matters that may affect the entire civilization of the world and all the humans, flora, and fauna inhabiting the planet.

Sincerely Yours,

Isaac Wilson (a.k.a Xentauros, Hero of the World, LV. 62 Machamp, Silver the Great Pokemon Trainer, and I.K.O.A.R)

P.S.

Best Wishes!
